They’re out in all weather but no, not delivering our mail. Every day they’re watching over our kids, helping them safely get where they need to go.
The thought of a young child crossing a busy street can be unnerving, for kid and parent alike. Luckily for everyone, Adult Crossing Guards are working in our communities each and every day, guiding our kids across busy streets. The Crossing Guards’ dedication to their position, loyalty to their neighbourhood, and caring for the safety of our children, is demonstrated year round.
The City of Ottawa’s Adult Crossing Guard Program started in 2002 with the Ottawa Safety Council delivering the Program for over 9 years. The Program has seen annual growth to its current number of over 120 Adult Crossing Guards working at 116 intersections all over our City.
Everyone’s appreciation was expressed on Saturday, September 11th at the annual “Thank an Adult Crossing Guard Event.” OETS’s own Kevin Wylie and Jim Miskelly were happy to be there on behalf of the City to show our support and appreciation. Kevin and the Ottawa Safety Council were proud to give each of the guards in attendance pins and certificates of appreciation.
On behalf of us all… thank you!
