Meet the TMOS Team

To get to know our TMOS team we’ve asked people from a variety of roles and at different points in their careers to tell us about themselves and their experiences. We will profile one team member each month in our TMOS Blog.

Melissa MacDonald

Education: Interior Design at Algonquin College and currently taking Graphic Design.
Position: Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Specialist
Years in TMOS: It’s been 2 years since the realignment when I moved to the TMOS group from RPAM.
Hobbies/Interests: I love camping and kayaking - Algonquin Park is my home away from home, graphic design projects (designing invitations, websites, etc.), goofing around with my Boston Terrier, listening to country music, watching HGTV and The Food Network.

What were you doing before joining TMOS?
Before joining the City I was in school full time at Algonquin College.

Why did you decide to join TMOS?
I had an opportunity to work as a consultant before I came on full time in the TMOS branch. I worked with some good people and found it a great atmosphere to work in.

What are you working on?
I’ve been focusing on the BIMS Project to digitize all the architectural plans for the City and put them in BIMS. I also maintain a library of CAD drawings for all the facilities and deal with requests from consultants, engineers and architects.

I’ve also worked on a number of interesting graphic design projects including the new TMOS banner, the Paint it Up! Report and I’m now working on the Ottawa Strategic Road Safety Action Plan.

What has been most rewarding about your TMOS experience?
I like that I’m able to take on new projects and get involved. I’ve enjoyed getting out to meet the people working in the facilities while working on the BIMS project.

What wouldn’t people know about you?
I’m so afraid of spiders that when my boyfriend went away for the weekend and I found one in our basement, I threw a shoe on it and left it there for two days until he got home and could deal with it.
